Yay. Joining us this week, we have one of the newest members of the GameLodge crew joining us. Streamer, Twitch affiliate, VTuber.

Guest Introduction and Favorite Games

00:00:50
Speaker
ah We are joined by That's Dragon Gamer person. Hi, Dragon.
00:00:55
Speaker
hi Welcome. Welcome to the podcast. How are you doing? I'm doing okay. A little tired, but that's to be expected when you get up at one o'clock in the morning. What do you mean?
00:01:09
Speaker
I'm the only manager for my job. Wow. We open at ah five. So have to be there and ready by 340. ah forty Oh, my God.
00:01:21
Speaker
yeah and I thought I'd wake up early for the rate my radio station gig. Yeah. Okay, you take the cake on that. Goddamn. Well, Dragon, welcome in. ah Because you're brand new here, we get to start with ah two of my favorite segments on this podcast, loading screens and hot takes. So to start us off, Dragon, you're going to give us your favorite video game.
00:01:42
Speaker
Favorite video game. Golden Book 2, The Lost Age, hands down, best video game ever made. um Okay. ah Favorite video game character.
00:01:55
Speaker
That's a lot harder for me to pick because it feels like it changes constantly. oh Currently, I've been obsessed with um with Sora. Not Sora. What's his name?
00:02:11
Speaker
It starts with an S. He's from Castlevania. Simon? He's reincarnation of Dracula.
00:02:23
Speaker
free and What? I don't know. Castlevania. No, and Zach has told me to play it multiple times. well you should totally play. I've been really obsessed with this dude. He's hot.
00:02:36
Speaker
Dracula Castlevania. Soma Cruz. Soma, thank you. Why did I get sore? Probably because I was listening to something about... ah I mean, to be fair, you're only one letter off.
00:02:50
Speaker
so I think it's literally because I was literally right before i joined here, I was watching the video about the history of ah Kingdom Hearts. Fair, which makes sense. ah Lastly, favorite game soundtrack?
00:03:04
Speaker
Final Fantasy XIV. You know what? Yeah, is that's... Are you getting... You can't go better from there. you know Speaking of Final Fantasy XIV soundtracks, ah the new FFXIV soundtrack is coming to streaming platforms soon.
00:03:23
Speaker
Growing Light. There we go. Growing Light, the next one. This is basically everything from patch 6.1 to 6.55. That is getting released onto streaming ah platforms.
00:03:37
Speaker
Do you know

Graphics in Gaming: Realism vs. Style

00:03:38
Speaker
if that one has a vinyl yet? Because I like to get the Final Fantasy XIV vinyls. Yes. ah from what Usually the vinyls come out or the the physical copies come out first and then the I guess put it to streaming. i mean to Because we're like at the end of 7.5 so it's like a whole... Yeah, we're about to enter 7.51 where the ultimate's released.
00:04:01
Speaker
Yes. ah So that that that'll that'll happen when that'll happen. ah But the new one, the new ones, the new soundtrack is now on streaming platforms. So now you can listen to a bunch of FF4 music just composed differently because that's basically all the Ed Walker patches were yeah but they're not wrong, and which to be fair, I'm not against because I love for love for hate the after years. God damn. Fuck the after years.
00:04:29
Speaker
Personally, I haven't played for yet, so I don't have an opinion. You should. It's good. It's on my list of games to play. Unfortunately, my list of games is growing constantly as they release new ones.
00:04:41
Speaker
Yeah, that is fair. ah Okay, hot takes. Dragon, what is your hottest video game take? Oh, the problem is I don't know how hot my takes are, but I am of the opinion that state-of-the-art graphics, like high-definition, ultra-realism, more often than not, makes a game bad.
00:05:04
Speaker
Because it will often enter the uncanny valley. Because will be like, this thing is so lifelike when it's obviously not that it leaves people unsettled. Which would make it good in a horror game. But if you're doing something that's like not meant to be a horror game and it has that just that really realistic graphics. Or if it's too realistic. Yes. like what If it's too realistic, it deters...
00:05:32
Speaker
Yes, and it's more of an atturrent than an attractor. You know what? That's not a bad take, especially now, because like, especially now, because like the only way things get that hyper realistic nowadays is through fucking generative AI.
00:05:48
Speaker
uh it is very disturbing it's also just not good uh but no i would definitely i would definitely agree with that because like there's still like like i i want games to look good but i don't like i want them still look like you can tell that it's a video game you know like that's why we play video games like escapism they don't need to look good they just need to look fitting for like stylized yes no exactly that's 100% agree with that do you know what my hottest video game take is what Mario 64 is a bad game casually
00:06:30
Speaker
Casually, yes, but for speed runners, it is amazing. Exactly. thankss you she get They get my point. that Dragon, you get my point. Thank you. Yeah. Well, I'm also of the opinion that ah Super Mario ah Sunshine is better than Super Mario 64 could ever be in every regard.
00:06:50
Speaker
I agree with that too, but that's also because i am nostalgia biased towards Sunshine because Sunshine was technically my first Mario game. well My first was 64, and it was the first game I ever 100% did in one sitting.
00:07:04
Speaker
ah ah Wow, that's a... How long did it take? When I was a kid, it took like 12 hours to do in one sitting. It was a whole day endeavor. Yeah, we got and I did it.
00:07:16
Speaker
Also, some of my fondest memories are from that game. Like, to this day, I still call a classic white icing boos because when I was a kid, whenever I would kill a boo, I would go get a scoop full of the classic white icing to where I conditioned myself unknowingly. If I kill a boo in any game, I can taste that icing better.
00:07:40
Speaker
My God, you Pavlov dogged yourself. Yes. Before I even knew what that was. That's hilarious. That's very funny. That is so weird. That's actually, that's kind of concerning, but that's also very funny at the same time. you It's in line for me.
00:08:02
Speaker
You know what? Fair. ah Okay. With that,

AI in Gaming Controversy

00:08:05
Speaker
it's time for us to dive into our headline of the week. And oh boy, do we have a doozy of a story for you today, folks. If you haven't seen it yet, Party Animals has been in the news. Party Animals ah being that little game that started off as like ah Basically, a a type of game that was like Gang Beast where you play as different animals, you punch each other, knock each other out of arenas. And they eventually added there were other game modes you could do. There was like a football, ah a hockey, soccer, and other types of mini games that they've added at with updates along the way.
00:08:38
Speaker
Well, they're in the news because they, the devs, recreate games. They announced a video contest with $75,000 in prizes.
00:08:50
Speaker
Oh, that seems pretty great. Did something go wrong with that? Yeah. No, no. The entries, quote unquote, must be primarily created using AI tools. That was in the official contest rules.
00:09:05
Speaker
Ironically, the rules also stated all submissions must be original works, even though most generative AI is based on copyright infringement and stolen work of real artists. ah So ah this did not go over well with the community, with people online who saw this, and people reviewed Bomb the Game, obviously, for very obvious reasons, which honestly, yeah, kind of deserved.
00:09:31
Speaker
ah Recreate Games then apologized kind of not well, and they conducted a poll to see where the community wants to go with the video contest.
00:09:41
Speaker
You could either vote to cancel the contest, make it a non-AI i video contest, or keep the contest the same and they'll just go on with it. They posted on X, quote, our original goal was to lower the barrier to creation.
00:09:56
Speaker
We hoped AI could be a more accessible tool that lets more people take part. ah That said, we understand the concerns around AI content. We're not trying to dismiss animated work or disrespect creators.
00:10:09
Speaker
To us, AI is just another tool. What we truly care about is the idea, expression, and the final work, unquote.
00:10:18
Speaker
So the poll results came in and the contest was canceled entirely. They then posted like a big proper long form apology that people didn't ran through chat. She, uh, like, uh, a program to detect like, Hey, was this written in like chat GPT or something?
00:10:36
Speaker
And, uh, according to what people found with that, ah it was like 99% written in chat GPT from the looks of it. Whether or not it actually was, we won't know for sure.
00:10:49
Speaker
But from what people put ran through the AI detectors, yeah, it's like 99% chat GPT written. Oh my fucking God. Yeah.
00:11:03
Speaker
It reminds me of a recent story that I read of an art contest where was an AI art contest and the winner actually wound up being someone who didn't use AI at all.
00:11:15
Speaker
That's funny, but they made it look like it was a i Yep. That's funny. That's actually talent. that's That's like genuinely kind of talented. Not going to lie. ah that's also very fucking funny, but yeah. Uh, so basically party animals kind of might be a dead game going forward. I don't know if we'll see much, uh, like those party animal commercials at any events anymore.
00:11:42
Speaker
ah because of this, because I think they're kind of, these guys are now kind of just a disgraced and, uh, Yeah, it's funny. Somehow party animals completely went under the radar for me. I didn't even know what it was until like you sent me this.
00:12:00
Speaker
You sent me something for it and it was just like, oh, I'm going to look this up. Oh. How have I never heard of this before? yeah Here's the thing. The game is fun. The game is fine.
00:12:11
Speaker
ah We played the game actually back when it came out on my stream. ah Mellow has a video up on his channel. It's in the Game of Cinematic Universe. ah The game is fine. The game is fun.
00:12:22
Speaker
ah It's just that this is just like a very sour taste that that the devs could leave in your mouth. ah Which is just very unfortunate, honestly. um This whole thing could have been avoided if they...
00:12:37
Speaker
you know, just

Game Release News and Speculation

00:12:38
Speaker
said like, not like a pro AI focused, if they had just said, let's just do a video contest and, you know, not mention AI at all, people could have fucking submitted stuff with AI that they probably said, oh, it's funny, ha ha. But like, it's like, ah you look, here's the thing, here's the thing.
00:12:56
Speaker
My stance on AI is a that generative AI, bad. Don't use that shit. There are AI tools that exist out there um that help with a lot of things that make the monotonous less monotonous.
00:13:12
Speaker
And that is fine because guess what? A human could have done that. It just would have taken a bit longer. That is fine. I am fine with that because guess what, guys? I don't know if you could tell um because you probably couldn't, but like ah there is a legit Adobe has one of these ah because I use the Adobe suite to edit my podcast.
00:13:33
Speaker
ah Adobe does have, a AI tool called Adobe podcasts, where basically all you got to do is it's like, Hey, you know, the settings that you like, you can manually set to make your voice sound a certain way, like to make it sound more high def, more clarity, all that kind of stuff. You can do it manually. It takes a bit of time. Well, you can just run it through Adobe podcast and it does that stuff for you. You can, you change set certain settings to make it sound how you want to sound and boom it's an ai tool it's fine because guess what a lot of people are doing that these days when it comes to this because it saves time and that's the only type of shit i'll endorse ai is the tools that like just help with content creation and don't like steal content creation so tools to supplement rather than steal exactly
00:14:26
Speaker
Yeah, yeah, I can agree with that. Yeah, it's like it's the basic it's the the normal take that people should have when it comes to AI and not the extreme take of all AI is bad because let's be real, not all AI is bad, but like a majority of it is.
00:14:44
Speaker
Let's be real. The shit that we see online on the Twitters and all the social medias, a lot of that shit is bad. If your is consuming half of all drinking water,
00:14:58
Speaker
If it is destroying the environment, no. Guess what? Gen AI does both. Goddamn clankers are stealing our water and turning the frogs gay. We don't want that.
00:15:10
Speaker
Okay, maybe we want the frogs gay. i mean like i like I'll leave that up to the frogs. yeah Leave it up to the frogs, but if the frogs decide to be gay, I'm going to support them. yeah I'm going to wave a flag behind them and support, and if anyone is mean to them, I will beat them up.
00:15:25
Speaker
The frogs have a different pride flag as well. It's just it's the pride flag, but there's a frog on it. I support it. Just to differentiate, folks. um ah ah With that, it's now time to dive into everything else that happened in these past two weeks and take a look at the headlines in the week in review.
00:15:45
Speaker
Recapping the major stories of video games and the world of tabletop, looking over recent releases and reports from the Game Lounge crew, it's the week in review. And starting off, some of the major games that came out in these past two weeks. Zero Parades for Dead Spies released. This is the new game from the creators of Disco Elysium.
00:16:04
Speaker
ah Bubsy 4D released. Subnautica 2 is finally in early access. Forza Horizon 6 is out. Lego Batman Legacy of the Dark Knight released. And Yoshi and the Mysterious Book is also out.
00:16:18
Speaker
I need to, isn't that one on the Switch too? Yes. I need to get a Switch too. God damn it. Starting off in video game news, we have a schedule for Summer Game Fest, folks.
00:16:30
Speaker
And starting off ah May 21st, which is the day that we're recording, this is the 6-1-80 showcase. Before we get into everything else, I'm going to quickly go over some of the things that were shown off in that um this was just a big ah rapid fire. All trailers.
00:16:46
Speaker
Some are games that have been out for a while. Some are games that are coming out. The ones that look the most interesting are the ones I should tell you to go check out. First off, the big con was there and I played the big con a couple years ago ah back when I was going through my backlog. Honestly, it is such a a really cool game. You should definitely go check it out if you get the chance. um Why was it shown off in the Oh, it's coming to consoles. It's coming to a console. So definitely if you got a home console, definitely go play the Big Con. It's a really cool game. Wax Heads was shown off. That's out on a couple of consoles as well.
00:17:24
Speaker
ah It's a record store simulator where yeah you recommend records to people ah ah to to sell, and it's like the overarching story with that.
00:17:36
Speaker
ah Looking at their site ah for other games that looked interesting that... Honestly, ah best thing I should recommend for you is to go to 61indie.com to check out all the games that were part of the showcase or go watch the showcase itself.
00:17:50
Speaker
ah There were over 60 games ah shown off ah in the showcase. So definitely go check it out if you want some cool indie games to go check out. On June 2nd, the PlayStation State of Play will happen at 2 p.m. Pacific. On June fifth the Accessibility Showcase will happen at 8 a.m. Pacific.
00:18:08
Speaker
Also on the 5th, the Summer Game Fest Main Showcase happens at 2 p.m. Pacific time. On the 6th, the Wholesome Direct happens at 9 a.m. m and the Future Game Show happens at 12 p.m., both of those Pacific.
00:18:22
Speaker
On the 7th, the Xbox Game Showcase starts at 10 a.m. ah And the ah the PC Gaming Show happens is at 12 p.m. Pacific as

Industry News and Collaborations

00:18:31
Speaker
well. ah Also, the Black Voices in Gaming and Women-Led Games are set to happen. They just don't have a date yet.
00:18:38
Speaker
And we still have no clue if a Nintendo Direct is coming in or not. It will. will. don't think it'll be around the same time. I think it'll probably be later in the month because that's usually what happens with the Nintendo Directs.
00:18:52
Speaker
Yeah, makes sense. That is a lot of drugs. In LEGO News, LEGO 2K Drive has shut down um and has been removed from storefronts. You cannot purchase this game anymore, which is kind not a good, not good.
00:19:09
Speaker
There's this whole Stop Killing Games initiative that's going around, folks. This is yeah not good. put it back on the storefronts, LEGO 2K Drive. Don't fucking do this. We'll come back for you next.
00:19:23
Speaker
Online servers shut down next year on May 31st, however. So if you have the game, you can still do stuff. I mean, the game is mostly offline, but like if you want to do online things, you'll have to do that.
00:19:37
Speaker
Does that mean it has the potential to become Lost Media? No, because I think at least unlike the crew, well I don't think it will simply because with everything that Stop Killing Games is doing currently,
00:19:51
Speaker
they're probably going to get sued realistically and they'll either a put it back on storefronts for dirt cheap or B, have a dedicated server or a dedicated offline server running for the game so that way it doesn't you can still play it even if you can't buy it.
00:20:06
Speaker
So yeah, it'll be hard to say. well Realistically, I think they're going to get sued. So that's that's that's my prediction on that. ah The VR exclusive series Moss is making us jump to non-VR with Moss the Forgotten Relic. This game combines both Moss and Moss Book 2 into one unified package that's been reworked for flat screens. What is Moss?
00:20:32
Speaker
I don't do VR stuff, so. It is like a little game where you are controlling a mouse and he's got a sword and he's on an adventure.
00:20:44
Speaker
That sounds adorable. That's the gist of what I know about it. That sounds adorable, honestly. It does. ah Japanese authorities arrested a 27-year-old man accused of sending mailed threats to Nintendo headquarters offices in Kyoto. The man, who is described as unemployed, allegedly he told Nintendo, I'm going to blow you all up.
00:21:06
Speaker
He was then arrested and admitted to the charges.
00:21:11
Speaker
That is so random.
00:21:15
Speaker
Was he a former Nintendo employee or was he like someone who just used to play Nintendo games but then we wound up becoming bankrupt because of how expensive Nintendo games wound up becoming?
00:21:29
Speaker
Honestly, i don't really know. It's just funny. It's so random. This is why you don't fuck with Nintendo. They come after you. yeah don't You don't fuck with them. but You know they used to have ties to the Yakuza?
00:21:42
Speaker
Yakuza or however you say it? Yeah, Nintendo be Yakuza. That's just how it be. the fighting game legend Katsuhiro Harada, the former director, producer of the Tekken franchise has joined SNK corporation to found a new development studio.
00:22:00
Speaker
VS studio SNK was established May 1st, and it will be a consolidated subsidiary of SNK with Harada acting as a representative director and CEO.
00:22:12
Speaker
He is back and he's going to be making new games, folks. If I was into fighting games, that would probably be more exciting for me, but I prefer RPGs. But if he's a legend in that, I'm sure all the people who love those games are really happy. Harada had serious talks with Waffle House to make it a stage in Tekken.
00:22:33
Speaker
Oh my God. Because the community said we would love to see Waffle House as a stage because of like, you know, the memes of like, oh yeah, they're fighting outside the Waffle House. her Harada fucking talked to them and like, no, what the fuck?
00:22:48
Speaker
But ah he tried. He tried. He also like tried to get the Colonel as a playable character. I think at one point in time, like Colonel Sanders. Okay. That's funny.
00:23:00
Speaker
Yeah. So Haran is a legend. ah One of the best ah out there. So very glad to see that he's unretired. ah Forza Horizon 6 Studio Playground Games laid it down in law and they banned a bunch of players who allegedly leaked footage of the racing game a week before its official launch. Leakers were hit with a ban set for 7,973 years across all Forza games.
00:23:27
Speaker
Holy smokes. They weren't playing, so if you did that you got hit by that, good. Wow. That's...
00:23:38
Speaker
That's worse than the longest ban I've seen from a Nintendo game for cheating on like, Splatoon. Yeah. It's very funny, though. Because in Splatoon, if you got caught cheating and you were banned from it, you would be banned for 100 years.
00:23:55
Speaker
Damn. It's funny. It's funny. ah The Lego company and Warner Brothers revealed the next Lord of the Rings Lego set, and it's the largest to date of, like, just Lego sets in general.
00:24:09
Speaker
It is a massive build of Minas Tirith, the capital city of Gondor, coming in at a whopping 8,278 pieces. It's even bigger than the Millennium but Falcon.
00:24:20
Speaker
Okay, but are they just as deadly to step on as the other Lego pieces? Yeah, yeah. Is that even a question? Yes. so Hey, last week, last sorry, last episode, we reported that GameStop was attempting to buy eBay. Well, in the latest chapter of that, ah eBay decisively rejected what they refer to as a proposal that is neither credible nor attractive.
00:24:43
Speaker
Given get the local GameStop where I lived closed because the GameStop wasn't making enough money, how would they ever be able to afford eBay if they're closing stores constantly?
00:24:54
Speaker
Because they could conquer the Pokemon market was what GameStop said. no Yeah. ah Xbox and Discord announced a brand new partnership on ah ah this past Monday.
00:25:10
Speaker
ah The two companies are teaming up to offer a pared down version of Game Pass to Discord Nitro subscribers. So Nitro now includes a starter edition of Xbox Game Pass that will come with about 50 games, Xbox and PC, to download and play.
00:25:28
Speaker
It offers about 10 hours of cloud gaming streaming every month. ah Some of the games included are DayZ, Deep Rock to Galactic, Fallout 4, Grounded, Overcooked 2, Stardew Valley.

Game Announcements and Updates

00:25:39
Speaker
And I was looking at the list. And also Halo 5 is on the list as well. So if yeah if you want to play the one of the worst Halo games in the series, play that too. Or you could just get the Master Chief Collection and play them all. ah The Master q Collection is only one through four plus ODST.
00:25:57
Speaker
Wait, I thought I had Reach. Oh, and Reach, and Reach, and Reach. So you'd be playing all the good ones. All the good ones. Yeah. Yeah. The funny thing is, like, Five is not on, like, every other Halo game, like, because you have the Master Chief Collection and Infinite, they're on Steam. I think both Halo Wars games are on.
00:26:15
Speaker
The first Halo Wars is. The second one isn't. And then both Spartan Assault and Spartan Strike are also there. So every Halo game except for 5 and Halo Wars 2 are on Steam.
00:26:29
Speaker
Yeah, so save yourself $9, $10 a month and just buy them on Steam. Yeah, or you know, if you but it's like it is kind of cool that it's like, because this is now like the cheapest form of Game Pass that you could get. Now, granted, it is very limited, but like it is 50 games for like $10 to play.
00:26:47
Speaker
So I'm not against it. I already have Nitro, so I may check it out. Most of the games that are there, it's like you pretty people probably have already played. Now, granted, if you've never played any of the games that are the list, it is only $10 to get Nitro.
00:27:02
Speaker
But granted, you know, with Discord's current standing and with what happened earlier this year, can totally understand if you don't want to give them money In Dragon Quest news, Yuji Hori, the creator of of the Dragon Quest franchise, just accidentally revealed when we're going to learn more about the next game in the series.
00:27:24
Speaker
e o On a now delisted episode of Koso Koso broadcast, Hori teased an upcoming live stream for the Dragon Quest series in which new games can be discussed.
00:27:35
Speaker
Jumatsu translated his comments. We'll be doing a live stream on May 27th. I think we'll be able to make an announcement about the next game. We'll also have various other things besides the next game, so please look forward to it.
00:27:49
Speaker
Oh, I recently, by recently, within the past five years, got into Dragon Quest because it was a game series I wasn't allowed to play growing up. And ah that has me excited because everything I've done with Dragon Quest has been so enjoyable. Which ah Dragon Quest have you played?
00:28:07
Speaker
Right now, I've only personally played Dragon Quest XI, but I've watched playthroughs of nearly every other game. XI is fantastic. I will say that. It is. It is one of the best RPGs in the modern era.
00:28:21
Speaker
Double Fine, the Xbox-owned studio behind Psychonauts 2, Killed and Keeper is unionizing. Yay. Good to hear. That's good. Protect them, workers. Resident Evil 9 released the Leon Must Die Forever DLC. And there's a bunch of different modifiers that you can turn on to make it ever more harder, easier, funnier.
00:28:50
Speaker
Whatever you want Leon to go through. I should ask my, uh, one of my friends who is really into Resident Evil about that. He'd probably, ah go on a tirade about it given how much he likes Resident Evil.
00:29:05
Speaker
Uh, Takashi Tezuka, the director of Nintendo classics like Super Mario Bros. 3, The Legend of Zelda, The Link to the Past. He's retiring ah from Nintendo this summer. Tensuka has been with Nintendo since 1984 and will be retiring on June 26th.

00:29:59
Speaker

00:30:33
Speaker
Yeah. I mean, it's kind of it would be funny if it is one person because it's like, well, they are now the biggest love live fan out there. Or one of the biggest love live fans. Cause I know people go crazy for that shit.
00:30:47

00:31:22
Speaker
millions of potential outcomes thus providing an endless stream of custom art now each of these artworks is randomly generated from a catalog of relevant assets such as 3d models in the case of sculptures or pre-made character icons in the case of portraits uh basically they like made a whole fucking like library for this shit so they didn't wouldn't have to use generative ai good on ya yeah that's a pretty good way to go about doing it yeah Nintendo announced a new mobile game that is very reminiscent of the 3DS' face Raiders, if you remember that. ah Picto Nico. This is being developed by Intelligent Systems. The people hide WarioWare.
00:32:03
Speaker
ah The game comes out May 28th on mobile devices. Can't we just get another WarioWare game, please? i mean, no. Oh, come on. WarioWare was fun.
00:32:15
Speaker
oh they are, but no. War Horse Studios, the team behind Kingdom Come Deliverance and Deliverance 2 have revealed two new projects in the works. The first one being a new Kingdom Come Deliverance game and a open world Middle Earth RPG.
00:32:33
Speaker
That sounds fun. i would say it does, but I still haven't watched Lord the Rings. So like I'm not like invested in the world at all that... Well, I'm not invested in that either, but I do happen to like, like I am a casual like of it, but it's enough of a like for me to enjoy it and have fun and open and would especially have fun in an open world setting because I love open world games.
00:33:01
Speaker
Gotcha. Okay. Okay. Hasbro canceled a Dungeons and Dragons video game that was in early development at Giant Skull, the studio run by Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order director Stig Asmussen.
00:33:12
Speaker
So RIP that game. ah And ah lastly in headlines, some sad news as Tom Kane, the voice actor whose works banned Star Wars. That's to the Old Republic.
00:33:23
Speaker
um He was the voice of Yoda in the Clone Wars. ah Professor Utonium in the Powerpuff Girls. ah He has passed away at 64. he He was part of a lot of people's childhood.
00:33:37
Speaker
He was. he will be missed and sending thoughts and prayers to his family, loved ones, and those affected. Moving on to ongoing game news, starting off with some MMORPG news. Final Fantasy XI is celebrating 24 years of being around that they updated their website to something that doesn't look like it's from 2005 anymore or whatever year the game came out. It doesn't look like it.
00:34:06
Speaker
They updated it finally and it's a bit better. And also... They expanded their free trial. Yes, folks, you heard me right. Final Fantasy XI.
00:34:17
Speaker
Have you heard of the critically acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy XI featuring its base game ah up to level 75 with no restrictions on playtime?
00:34:31
Speaker
Sign up now and join Vanity L today. That doesn't roll off the tongue nearly as well. No. So now the entire base game is a part of the demo. You can get your classes and jobs up to level 75, and there is now no limit on playtime, as there used to be a limit. Wasn't the old limit like 20 hours or something like that? Yeah, it was something like that. But now with this happening as well, folks, the FF11 devs are like, shit, this game is picking up steam again.
00:35:02
Speaker
that they are they're having to like bring back people who worked on the game to help with server optimization a bit. And they're also considering making a new expansion as well, potentially.
00:35:13
Speaker
Wait, a new expansion for 11? It's only been like talks and rumors, but it's potential that it might happen, yeah. That would be cool if they ever combined the 11 sub to the 14 sub. That will be when I play it because I can only play so many subscription games at a time. You see, what I'm going to do is I'm probably going to as part of my Final Fantasy Marathon. Now that they've done this at the end of the marathon, I will be playing 11's base game now because it's free to play with ah with the trial And then depending on how I like it will determine if I play expansion, get a sub to play the expansion or not. And then I'll just play through the expansion to be done with it.
00:35:53
Speaker
That's how I'm feeling about this, but it's very cool. So I'm going to be checking it out eventually. i just have like 40 other games to play through first. yeah If you're playing Hall of Final Fantasy, you do. Yeah.
00:36:05
Speaker

00:37:13
Speaker
Also, anti-aircraft vehicles are being introduced to help the infantry on the ground. Not all is terrible for you pilots though. Many improvements have been made such as maneuverability, hit detection improvements, and visual indicators.
00:37:27
Speaker
There are a bunch of other quality of life updates like vehicles no longer being slowed down by railroad crossings, stockpile expiration alerts, and your rank will now be capitalized. One of the biggest announcements is that shards or servers are being merged due to player-based challenges, but it will make for a bigger conflict for players overall.

00:40:13
Speaker
um and Garfield has three drops coming in his secret lair sets. So 15 cards, I think is what that is for you to get both foil and non-foil.
00:40:26
Speaker
Teenager me who played the hell out of Magic the Gathering its would just be so confused now. Yeah, there's a lot of cards now that's like, oh, yes, I play Iron Man and then I equip him with a buster sword.
00:40:43
Speaker
I still don't have a Buster Sword, by the way. That card is fucking hard to find, and it's expensive as fuck. Oof. In Lorkana news, Wilds Unknown is out now.
00:40:54
Speaker

Well, with that, then it's time for us to take a look ahead and give you all the games that are coming out of the next two weeks. Here is what should be on your radar from May 25th to June 5th. From AAA titles, indie hits, hidden gems, and hot pieces of garbage, here are the games coming out that should be on your radar.
00:41:39
Speaker
And just a reminder that if a game is coming out on the PS5 Series X and PC, those ah I will be saying that it comes out on the core systems um since most games release on those three. And because we're not and because games are still being produced for the PS4 and the Xbox One still, that is why it is listed like that.
00:42:04
Speaker
All right, starting off, enter on the 25th, Enter the Chronosphere and Paralives both come to PC Early Access. On the 26th, Lumen Tail, Memories of Trade comes to Switch and PC. Realm of Ink comes to the Core Systems and Switch. And Yerba Buena comes to the Core Systems.

Speaker
On the 27th, 007 First Light comes to the Core Systems. Echo Generation 2 comes the Series X and PC. And Schrodinger's Call comes to the PC. On the 28th, Crash Out Crew, the new game from Aggro Crab.
00:42:37
Speaker
Yes, it's Aggro Crab. Comes to the Series X and PC. ah Dark Scrolls comes to Switch and PC. Stray gets the switch to Switch 2 edition. wandering And Wandering Sword comes to PS5.
00:42:50
Speaker
On the 29th, Little Nightmares 2 Enhanced Edition comes to the Switch 2. Mina the Hollower comes to the Core Systems and Switch 1 and 2. And My Little Puppy comes to the Switch. No game releases on the first, but on the second, Among the Sleep comes out on mobile devices.

Speaker
On the third, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth comes to the Switch 2 and Series X. And if you pre-order the game through one of the sites, you can get a special promo Magic the Gathering card of Zack.
00:43:18
Speaker
of Zach fair on the fourth Cal X comes to the PC e-football kickoff comes to the switch to river city saga journey to the west comes to the PS5 switch and PC swan song comes to PC and the seventh guest remake and tour de France 2026 both come out on core systems and on the fifth gothic one remake comes to the core systems and the switch to and those are all your game releases All I can think about with Stray coming to the Switch, Switch is often seen as a child-friendly, people look at well so it's still It's still considered child-friendly because Nintendo has always been geared as that. Stray is not child-friendly. I'm still traumatized.
00:44:11
Speaker
why oh is i mean i was gonna say why and then i'm like oh wait yeah b uh like in bb bb9 or whatever the the robot was called well stray is you know the game about the cat there is a section of the game that is um a bunch of eyeballs staring at you constantly gentlyly as you progress through oh yeah during the sheds during one of the chase scenes Yes, that scene still has me traumatized to this day.
00:44:42
Speaker
And I played Stray when it came out. It wasn't that bad. i have it I had to stop there. I couldn't continue. I haven't beaten the game because I was just that upset by that section. Damn.
00:44:58
Speaker
that's ah what what is that What is that called? The fear of eyeballs? There's a term that. It's not that. It was just it i wasn't expecting that. And I was playing it at like 2 a.m.
00:45:11
Speaker
Oh, metaphobia. The fear of eyeballs.
00:45:18
Speaker
It was definitely the fact I was playing it at 2 a.m. when I was supposed to be asleep. That doesn't help. That definitely doesn't help. um As for some of the bigger games that are coming out, 007 First Light is ah definitely one of the biggest ones. ah This is potentially a game of the year contender.
00:45:34
Speaker
So I'm going to playing that. I'm actually kind of excited for the game. um So I'll definitely be checking that out. Crash Out Crew, if you're a fan of Friendslop, Aggro Crab, just Aggro Crab, nu ah they're ah not with um fucking Landfall.
00:45:49
Speaker
It is just Aggro Crab. Agro Crab does some good games. Honestly, like they've did Another Crab's Treasure, which is a Souls-like undersea game. And it is genuinely a really good game.
00:46:06
Speaker
It's hard, though. It's a Souls game. It's hard. Oh, yeah. Never said it wasn't hard. It's just good. um So, yeah, Crash Out Crew, this is their new Friends Lob game where you and your friends are sorting, are all forklift certified, and you're driving your forklift to get boxes to the delivery zone.
00:46:25
Speaker
ah Looks like a lot of fun. um You might see me in the game. I should play that ah down the line. um Rebirth coming to Switch 2 in the Series X. Great game.
00:46:37
Speaker
That's all I got to say about that. um What else? I think that's really about it for like big, big games, honestly, this ah these upcoming weeks. so ah the Oh, and you know the Holoware. It's the new game from the creators of Shovel Knight.
00:46:53
Speaker
ah It's their new game. Definitely check that out as well. I just looked up Dark Scrolls. That looks like fun for if you like ah platformers.
00:47:04
Speaker
good to know All right, with that, it's now time for us to dive in to our main focus. Here is what we are talking about this week in the Game Lounge.
00:47:16
Speaker
Conversations of past and future games, the state of the gaming industry, how big decisions affect gamers, and anything else that's important to us. Here's what's going down this week in the Game Lounge. And our first topic of the day is something we're both very completely normal about, totally don't hyper-obsess about.
00:47:33
Speaker
ah We're talking about Final Fantasy XIV. Normal in quotations. Normal in quotations, yes. Dragon, ah what was it that got you into FFXIV? And when did you start playing the game?
00:47:47
Speaker
Okay, that is actually a really funny story. So my older sister started playing the game mid-Stormblood. My little sister started playing the game near the end of Stormblood. They both tried to get me to play, and I was just not interested because I was done with MMOs because I had been playing... i was i played Ragnarok Online when I was a kid. I played Mabinogi. I played Perfect World. I played a lot of different m MMOs, and I was just...
00:48:18
Speaker
burned out from MMOs but then uh one day I was talking with my boyfriend and i was just scrolling steam and I happened to see Ragnarok online was on ah steam and I was like hey would you like to play this with me I'm kind of getting the itch to get back into and MMOs and he was like I'll play that with you if you play Final Fantasy 14 with me So my playtime on Steam for Ragnarok Online is two hours.
00:48:47
Speaker
My playtime for Final Fantasy XIV is almost 20,000. i think we know what happened. Yeah. and I started playing two weeks before 5.5 released.
00:49:01
Speaker
Because I remember I was entering Shadowbringers and I was really excited to start Shadowbringers. And then there was a maintenance to release 5.5. I was upset.
00:49:14
Speaker
That's funny. but but It was still really, really good time to get into the game, I feel. That that was would be a good time to get into the game. ah Before we get to more of Final Fantasy, I actually have breaking news, folks, that just ah came in.
00:49:30
Speaker
ah And this is very big. Big news regarding Destiny 2, everybody. Destiny 2 just announced that they are that they're releasing their final ah live service content update on June 9th to the game and development for Destiny.
00:49:46
Speaker
I'm assuming, assumedly, Destiny 3 is starting. So big news there, folks. Sorry about that. Just had to break that real quick. Back to FF14.
00:49:58
Speaker
How, what, what version yeah are you doing the, the, from the launcher or did you get it on Steam? I got it through Steam. Okay. How many hours do you have in the game? Okay, let me pull up Steam.
00:50:12
Speaker
Let me pull it up. Currently, my current playtime sits at 19,636.8 hours. And I'm currently in-game on my main character. Let me do a playtime.
00:50:26
Speaker
This is the character I started as, and I still play actively to this day. 775 days, hours and minutes. days. Hold time Calculator.
00:50:42
Speaker
seven seven five plus fourteen hours
00:50:49
Speaker
eighteen thousand six hundred fourteen yeah just all my main character and you have nineteen thousand something and change on your on steam Yes, because I have eight characters that I play through.
00:51:04
Speaker
You have eight? Why do you have eight? Role play. that i You know what? I won't dive into that any further because I don't want to know.
00:51:16
Speaker
Three of them are role play. Two was for a bit that I was doing with a friend. One is lore reasons for my main well, two are lore reasons for my main character and one is a streaming character.
00:51:29
Speaker
Okay, yeah, that makes sense. Okay. Okay. Yeah, you have way more hours than I do. Now, granted, I started playing in, what was it? It was like patch 6.2 when I got into the game.
00:51:47
Speaker
And then I caught up with everything right when 6.55 released. That was a also a good time to get into the game. think it was right before Paladin's rework. the Granted, when I got it, I only got into the game.
00:52:00
Speaker
i don't think I don't think I've ever told you this story, Dragon. Do you know how I got into Final Fantasy XIV? No, I do not. Okay, so I got into FFXIV because of tc and Zach, the trash man. They're like, you should play FFXIV with us. I'm like, no, I'm not a big MMO guy, but you know what I'll do?
00:52:22
Speaker
If I get 100 gifted subs. Did they you 100 subs right then? not Not like as like a single thing. It's like I put a sub goal and I think the sub goal, it was like at 150, I'll play FF14.
00:52:36
Speaker
We got that sub goal. And most of it was done in a day. Thanks to fucking T. Back when TC was irresponsible with money and not broke. ah That sounds about right.
00:52:48
Speaker
That's what happened. And then so me, Mellow, and our boy Gangan got into the game. Me and Mellow continued on all the way to Stormblood. Gangan dropped at the end of A Realm Reborn.
00:53:01
Speaker
And then Mellow kind of started Shadowbringers, but i I did everything. And my end goal with the game is to do every side quest that the game has to offer. Looks left, looks right, looks at my empty map because I've done all the quests. Yeah, i'm only the only quests I have left are the job quests. and The job quests, that one fishing quest that teaches you about big fish and Occult Crescent, the Phantom Relics, the Shadowbringer Relic, because i never finished the show I never really did the Shadowbringer Relic. I think that's it.
00:53:34
Speaker
Oh, so that means you've done Eureka. Oh, yeah. I've done everything in Eureka i except for Baldessian Arsenal. Remind me sometime and I'll pull you in on that. I've attempted BA, but i we did we got to absolute virtue and wiped.
00:53:49
Speaker
Remind me and I will pull you in for a ABBA run sometime. Know what? I would absolutely love that. I think I have to re-level up because I haven't been Eureka for so long.
00:54:03
Speaker
So I got to do that. And oh yeah then I also count the um the extreme mount quest that gets you the the the capstone mount for each expansion. I count those as well. So I'm currently going for the lynxes.
00:54:16
Speaker
Yeah, um that's if you're counting that, then I am missing that one as well because I do not have all the wings yet. Yeah. but wing I will say the wing, the the the that wing mounts, like the final one, looks really cool.
00:54:30
Speaker
You mean the biblically accurate warrior of light? The biblically accurate warrior of light wings, yes.
00:54:38
Speaker
Yes. um Okay. what are What are your main jobs? What jobs... Did you start with, ah and what jobs are your favorite and like least favorite jobs?
00:54:50
Speaker
So I started as an archer and unlocked bard, and I went through the entirety of Shadowbringers as bard. Okay. Then I learned that you could get the Amaro as a mount if you unlocked everything.
00:55:02
Speaker
And during that quest of unlocking everything and getting it all maxed out, I unlocked my current and forever main, Dark Knight. Okay.
00:55:12
Speaker
and fell in love. So i I went from a DPS main who played Bard mediocrely to someone who plays Dark Knight very well because I've actually I've looked at the logs. I'm pretty damn good. Oh, you look at your numbers. really What color is your number?
00:55:32
Speaker
ah So I'm not counting this current tier because I've had a really bad time of getting assassinated by other players because there is a lot of attacks in ah this entire tier that ah involves you getting assassinated. But last tier, the tier before and all of ah and Walker, I was consistently getting orange which is ah the second best you can get.
00:56:01
Speaker
Yeah. what what The best you get is purple. Gold. Gold. Okay. Wow. Purple is below orange. Okay. Gotcha. Yeah. Well, that's actually very impressive.
00:56:14
Speaker
I have on record a 99 parse. Wow. That's wow. wow From what I know about that, that's very impressive.
00:56:25
Speaker
Mm-hmm. I am really proud of that, and it was in my favorite of the fights from Endwalker. What fight would that be? P10.
00:56:36
Speaker
You... Wait. You like P10? Really? P10S. Yes, that is my favorite of the fights from Endwalker because... Because of a pastime that I discovered and I took part in called tank bowling.
00:56:51
Speaker
What? What? What? So, yeah know like you know how the he stomps down for the tank buster? In the Savage version, it launches you. Oh. And we would put markers for, and whoever got the closest would get the most points. Okay. I was really good at tank launching because i played tank in the Savage tier, and I could always perfectly land right where I needed to.
00:57:23
Speaker
Wow. That's funny. Okay, that's a bit funny. That's kind of funny. But my favorite job overall... Well, go on. um With P10. P10 is like my least favorite fight in the Pandemonium.
00:57:36
Speaker
Is it because he's a giant spider? No, it's not even that. It's just... I just didn't care for it. it's It was a lot of fun. It felt longer than all the other ones. It actually is longer than all the other ones. I didn't care for that.
00:57:53
Speaker
It also, on release, nine times out of 10, if you got it in Duty Finder, you'd wipe.
00:58:02
Speaker
That makes sense. You basically had to use an LB3. And most of the time, or healer LB3 and tank LB3, depending on the circumstances. of Like, Harrowing Hell would kill if you were even had one missing gear piece.
00:58:22
Speaker
Wow, that's that's kind of fucked up, Square Enix. What the fuck? What the fuck, Yoshi-P? It was really hard, but it was really fun. i miss that so much. why i don't i This is why I'm not like us a current content person. like I do the content when it comes out normally, but is I don't fucking farm that shit for a reason. I was farming that shit, bro.
00:58:49
Speaker
There's a reason I don't. There is a but reason I don't, and I'm glad I don't. I had a week one clear. My God. Wow. Impressive. Okay, so what are your other favorite jobs that you do play?
00:59:02
Speaker
Red Mage is my main caster. I love Red Mage. My main healer is white mage, though i I play with sage as well quite a bit, but I would never take it into it like a savage. And i've been taught I've been practicing a lot lately with samurai and finding it to be really fun, even though it does break my fingers.
00:59:25
Speaker
Yeah. there Are do you a keyboard or a um controller player? Mouse and keyboard. Mouse and keyboard, okay, yeah. And it takes up all three fucking hot bars that I use. Yeah. But it's a lot of fun.
00:59:38
Speaker
And my main Fizz range is still to this day Bard. Okay, that's good to see at least. Yeah, I still play Bard an awful lot. It is still my favorite of the Fizz range, though, of course, there's only three options with it. Yeah, three options now until Evercold comes out.
00:59:57
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. Uh, my main class, uh, I started as a dragoon. That's what I got into the game as floor tank. Yeah. Yeah. I was told that. And I was, I'm like, what was the floor tank? I don't get it.
01:00:11
Speaker
and then it wasn't until I started tanking before that. I understood. ums And then I became Reaper. And I've got Reaper main ever since.
01:00:25
Speaker
so So you just switched one maiming job for another. Yeah, but I really did. Maiming jobs were my favorite. um And it's really great with the Evercold trailer now. It's like, I feel seen.
01:00:37
Speaker
This has been how every other job reveal ah that Meteor took felt for all those fans. I feel seen. And then i've I'm currently going through leveling up all of my classes to get um all the the mouse that you get, the Amaro at 80, and now the the big robot at 100. mean the monitor? The TV monitor tv monitor robot, yes.
01:01:06
Speaker
Let me tell you, the level 90 reward is disappointing. yeah Especially on launch. It's a glam piece. I know On launch, Hrothgar and Vieira couldn't wear it. Oh, that's funny, actually. ah ah So the reward for getting everything to 90, on launch, two of the races couldn't wear. That's funny. They can wear it now, though, I'm assuming. Oh, yeah. They they patched that really quick, but it was hilarious. That's funny.
01:01:36
Speaker
That's very funny. um But yeah, so I'm currently, I've been, I only have three jobs left to get to a hundred. ah One that I'm currently working on is dark night. If you ever want some tips, you know where to go.
01:01:49
Speaker
I mean, I'll ask you for what I'm only level 40 with it currently, like 42. um One does, what does dark night get? What does it get good?
01:02:01
Speaker
but At level 50. Yeah, I figured. And it gets really fun Stormblood when you unlock your gauge. Okay, cool. Good to know. And at level 70, you have the strongest anti-tankbuster ability.
01:02:16
Speaker
Oh, okay. Good to know. That's when you unlock TBN. Okay. Yeah, i do know that with Dark Knight, it's the only class that can solo Savage Eden for Savage.
01:02:32
Speaker
Can it? Yeah, it's the only one that can solo it because of the the the dark ah Dark Illusion. but look it's It's double. You mean because of the Steam? Is that what it's... Whatever your like copy ability Yeah, that's the Steam. The Steam, yeah. It's because of that that that's the only reason the only way Dark Knight can solo Titan.
01:02:53
Speaker
Okay. Savage. favored warrior would have been able to with the you know yeah with the ridiculous healing. Because you get jailed in the savage. Oh, okay.
01:03:06
Speaker
So, fun fact, I've cleared that. That's how I'm able to do tea, but I did it in such a way that just caused it to be over in two seconds. Nice. Nice. Nice. Over in two seconds because we had ah at the time it was level 90 at the max. We had eight level 90 BIS characters just mowing down. Yeah, no, absolutely.
01:03:33
Speaker
That's what I want to get together so I can just go through the Pandemonium Savages and do that basically for a majority of those fights because I feel like that's what would happen now. I am going to suggest that you still do the Tree Saint.
01:03:49
Speaker
I have never done any of the savagest syncs and I'm not going to start. Well, the tree is a rite of passage. and The tree is a rite of passage. I am going to unsync. I do not do synced current content, Dragon. It's the one thing I cannot do. Fair enough. im like i it's one there's a fear.
01:04:10
Speaker
two i so i just don't have that mental capacity to go through that. Now look, if I was doing an ultimate, it's a different story because ultimates are supposed to take time to get good.
01:04:22
Speaker
And ah will I ever do an ultimate? Maybe. I'll maybe one day do Uwu. But like, realistically, I'm not. If you ever do want to try it, let me know because I do want to write uian to go back into Uwu.
01:04:38
Speaker
I'll let you know.
01:04:41
Speaker
Ranking the expansions that currently exist... How would you rank all of them? like i feel like but i feel like this will I feel like this will be ah extremely unpopular because ah i feel like this is going to be a hot take.
01:04:57
Speaker
I put Heaven's Word second to last. Really? Yes. And just below that, I will be you know, a Realm Reborn. So we're going first because it does count as an expansion.
01:05:11
Speaker
So Realm Reborn, Heavensward. Then I will put Shadowbringers, Stormblood, Endwalker. No way to put Dawn Trail after Shadowbringers.
01:05:24
Speaker
So it's Realm Reborn, Heavensward, Shadowbringers, Dawn Trail, and and then Endwalker. You have Dawn Trail over Shadowbringers?
01:05:37
Speaker
Yes. I liked Dawn... So the way I'm rating it... Here's the thing. I liked Dawn Trail. I'm not saying I didn't dislike... I didn't like Dawn Trail. I just found Dawn Trail weak in like a lot of parts.
01:05:50
Speaker
I am breaking the entire expansion for the story, the battle content, the jobs introduced. Okay, okay, okay. that
01:06:02
Speaker
That's fair because Dawn Trail does have like some of the best battle content to date. Yes. That's fair, but like, okay okay, so you're doing all of that. Okay, what if it was if it was just story then?
01:06:15
Speaker
ah if it was just story, number one would it be Endwalker still. Endwalker would still be number one. After that would Shadowbringers. ah So Shadowbringers would to be number two. Number three...
01:06:33
Speaker
I still feel like this is going to be unpopular. I'd put Stormblood there. that's That's fair. Then Dawn Trail, Heavensward, or Realm Reborn. Wow. Heavensward's still second. Wow.
01:06:45
Speaker
So Heavensward is a good story. Yeah. But I feel like it is less that the story is good and that it benefited from its storytelling.
01:06:57
Speaker
Because good story great storytelling can make a bad story good. It made a story good story phenomenal. Overall, it was a good story. But it just had amazing storytelling, amazing build, really damn good pacing, and that made it way better. But if you took took just a story without the storytelling...
01:07:20
Speaker
nowhere near as good as okay okay i see what you mean there and that's fair i with with with that yeah i can i can see that that's the that's why i put storm blood above it because it was a great story that suffered from poor pacing yeah that It unfortunately had not the best pacing. If it had better pacing, had a more direction for why we were doing what we were doing, for going where we were going, it would have been it would have just shoved heaven toward side and been like, I'm the new best kid on the block.
01:07:59
Speaker
Yeah. Okay. Fair. Plus it's what gave us Omega. And it gave me my boy Alpha. Yeah, it it did bring the Chocobo from the Chocobo Mystery Dungeon games to Final Fantasy XIV.
01:08:17
Speaker
And anybody who knows me and has seen my room in ah my FC knows how much I love that little Chocobo. There.
01:08:27
Speaker
You see, I rank personally, I have Shadowbringer is over Endwalker. um For my top two ah only because and Walker did not hit as hard for me as it did a lot of other people.
01:08:40
Speaker
ah I have after that probably Heavensward and then Stormblood and then Dawn Trail and then a r obviously.
01:08:56
Speaker
Yeah, for most people, Realm Reborn is going to be the bottom. Yeah, yeah it's it look, it's not because it's bad. It's because it has to to it takes so long because it has to establish everything.
01:09:09
Speaker
That's also one reason why i like it so much, because it is the basis for where all lore is brought up. Yes, and now it's also a big reason why Dawn Trail, a lot of people, the big reason people dislike Dawn Trail is because it it has a lot of ARR elements because it's essentially, we know nothing about Tural.
01:09:32
Speaker
We know nothing about it when we're going into it. Whereas with every other place, thanks to like other bits of dialogue and stuff, we kind of know bits and pieces is already about each other place that we go to.
01:09:43
Speaker
Aside from Shadowbringers. Obviously, aside from Shadowbringers, But that's another reason why Shadowbringers, that's kind of also what made Shadowbringers very enjoyable was like, oh shit, like it was the start of the reflections.
01:10:00
Speaker
And it's like, oh, oh, we're about to really see what what this shit's about. Okay. o Plus Shadowbringers had Emmett Selk, everybody's fabulous guy.
01:10:11
Speaker
yeah Arguably one of the best villains in Final Fantasy history. Arguably the best villain in history. Honestly, out of all the games I've played, Emmett Selk is easily one of my favorite villains across oh absolutely every game I've ever played.
01:10:29
Speaker
Absolutely. 100% agree with you there. um But Donchell suffers a lot from ARR, especially in the first half, ah because of...
01:10:40
Speaker
Too much world building? It's not that it's too much. Well, mean, yes, i I think that's why people dislike it because it's a majority of it is just basically world building of just Tyral, just this one continent.
01:10:53
Speaker
And while it's cool in a sense, it's kind of like overdone a bit and they could have like laid back a lot of that in the MSQ and done it for like side quest stuff.
01:11:11
Speaker
I feel like it would have detached from the EMSQ because the whole point of the EMSQ was for that world building. no Yeah, granted, yes. Well, with the first half of it, yes. Yeah, for the first half, yes. And and my my big thing with Dawn's Trail is the the first half of Dawn's Trail is very weak. And it's only like when Wook Lamott and Kona become the Dawn's Servant that like things in the second half kick are like a lot cooler.
01:11:39
Speaker
and better in my opinion. Yeah. a match And then everything post Dawn Trail is great. Fantastic. I love post Dawn Trail. Yeah, I i agree. Post Dawn Trail is absolutely amazing.
01:11:53
Speaker
As a lore lover, because I i love lore. I've got all the lore books. I plan to get every single lore book as they come out. I am obsessed with lore. it is...
01:12:05
Speaker
usually a pastime of mine to just read up on the lore. I've been been enjoying it. I love the beginning of this story so much. which That is also one reason why people have been negative towards Storm Trail because it is the beginning, not the kind not the climax or conclusion.
01:12:25
Speaker
Most people prefer the climax or conclusion of a story as opposed to the beginning. Yeah. And Donna Chal is what essentially the kickoff of what what is it? the The Godless Realms saga is what Yoshi P calls it now. Yeah.
01:12:41
Speaker
it It is basically the realm we're born 2.0. Yes. um My one big complaint, especially now that we have all the post-story content aside from 6.55 7.55, um...
01:12:52
Speaker
um is that I wish that like Calyx was teased earlier. i can agree with that for sure. Because like with how much of a more important role he plays in the post patches, I wish that it was like when we were dealing with Eternal Sveen, especially in like, um what's it? The Golden City. What's it called? um Living Memory.
01:13:18
Speaker
Especially in there. I wish that like there were like hints of like, Speed's not the one in like entirely in control is that there's some other force kind of playing a role here.
01:13:32
Speaker
I wish there was a one-off line from like an NPC. Cause you know how you would always, when you were going and doing those quests, it was like talk to these three NPCs and one of them would have relevant information. I wish there was just a one-off line from one of those quests, one of those NPCs that hinted towards Kallax. Yes. That would have been great. Mm-hmm.
01:13:52
Speaker
I think it would have been nice because it's because it would have been like, oh, wait, there's something more deeper here. it's like, yeah, well, we beat Eternal Sfiend. There's something wrong here still.
01:14:05
Speaker
And it's like we don't really get that until the post ah patches that we realize that. But, um you know, it is what it is.
01:14:16
Speaker
Also, the patch content for it gave us the first instance of the Warrior of Light actually doing something in a cutscene. Which was? For when the ah the Warrior of Light destroyed Kallax.
01:14:30
Speaker
Oh, yeah. Destroyed his delivery bank. Yeah. That was the first time in a cutscene the Warrior of Light actually did something. Actually? Wow.
01:14:41
Speaker
Well, aside from a Realm Reborn for when they you know struck a La Brea, but that was a more generalized thing that was unique for each job. Whereas all the other cut scenes, if you notice, the War of Light will draw their weapon and run forward, but then they will go off screen and do things. Right, yeah.
01:15:04
Speaker
because It was the first time that they fully showed that. Oh, yeah, I guess it was. Wow. Yeah. Yeah. That's kind of cool, actually. fact Which mean cool tells me they're going to be doing that more often.
01:15:15
Speaker
Yeah, I actually I feel like the ah other exception is fucking Hildebrand because we fucking hit a fucking robot missile with a frying pan. and hildabra But that's not including our job. And I was referring specifically of using our specifically to the actual jobs. Yes, yes.
01:15:33
Speaker
Also in Hildebrand, we spiked a ah robot's head like it was a volleyball. We did. I'm excited that with the end of this new Hildebrand line, I'm excited that we're getting another mount out of it. Yes, I can't wait for that. Hildebrand has always been my favorite content in the game. Fucking hardy boiled motorcycle. That's going to be so cool. can't wait. Oh, that's going to be cool. I hope that's going to be cool to get. Okay.
01:16:00
Speaker
Evercold. Dear, what are you hoping to see in Evercold content wise, story wise that hasn't been talked about yet? And what are your theories on what the two new jobs are going to be?
01:16:12
Speaker
So I am hoping that we have something to do with Valkyries because it's very Norse coded and they've actually straight up said that it has Nordic inspirations. I want something to do with Valkyries because Valkyries was like one of my first obsessions. So if they can do something with Valkyries in this story, because like there's the theory that that Aura is Odin and Odin works with Valkyries.
01:16:41
Speaker
And they were, you know, a really, and we've seen, we've thought we're seeing a lot of female aura's in there. So Valkyries, please. And that is women warriors. Who do you think is you think Odin is the winter of the fourth?
01:16:57
Speaker
no, no. Who do you think the winter of the fourth is? Who do you think our main villain is going to be? Oh, what if it's like the Loki equivalent? I was thinking more along the lines of Loki. Yeah.
01:17:09
Speaker
Yeah. That would make sense. Because Loki, isn't he supposed to be the one who brings about Ragnarok? I don't know enough Norse mythology to know that. Hold on.
01:17:23
Speaker
ah it could also be Thor if there was a Thor equivalent character. Because that would just be... Yeah, it is Loki. It is Loki. Either a Loki equivalent or a Thor equivalent. Or a... um What was their sister's name in...
01:17:40
Speaker
uh the moot in the thor movies like i know that's not what's that her name the yeah she yeah hella either a thor loki or hella okay any of those three i would be happy for if they're the winter as long as it's not as xenos you know ah here's the thing though here's here's the thing If Zenos is somehow still alive, i would find that. will unsub.
01:18:13
Speaker
You will unsub. I would find that hilarious because it's like, like even though we like beat him, it seems like we finally killed him at the wherever it was at the end of the world.
01:18:27
Speaker
I'm just saying he somehow, I don't know, like fucking somehow some life force found him and then he just walked his way back to the fucking star only to not return to our star, but to return to like a different star. He ends up in the fourth.
01:18:44
Speaker
Yeah, I really don't think it's possible. I've gotten into discussions and like my main Final Fantasy XIV discord. I've gotten discussions for it and I will stand by. i think it would do Xenos a disservice to bring Xenos, the source Xenos that we know back.
01:19:03
Speaker
If anything, have his reflection be referenced. Have like an NPC just have a hint towards him being Xenos' reflection. He play like a minor role in a sub arc and we'd be done with it.
01:19:18
Speaker
Just leave Xenos that we left at the edge of the universe there. Make Xenos an Evangelion mech.
01:19:30
Speaker
but it It would just do a disservice to his characters. Here's what it is. The normal Raid series is all Zenos. oh you yeah o
01:19:46
Speaker
i ah no I won't un-sub, but I would just roll my eyes heavily and just ignore that aspect of it and enjoy every other aspect.
01:19:58
Speaker
that' That's my theory. That's my game theory. What are your thoughts on the jobs? What's the new tank and what's the new range going to be? So I saw a theory that I happen to really like. they um The theory is less involving what was the picture of the shirt and more what was on it. Retired to Sassar Vita.
01:20:18
Speaker
Well, the text was like, ah did you miss me? And there were two jobs in 1.0 that are currently not in the game. One was a tank. One was a ranged DPS. Sentinel and Buccaneer. Okay, so that's what the trash man...
01:20:42
Speaker
theorized as well. With Sezil being the two gun shields and Buccaneer. what what weapon is as I'm assuming Buccaneer is what Merlewib has. Yes. And you can still see the Buccaneer ah guild in Limsa to this day.
01:20:56
Speaker
you just There is no Buccaneer job in the game. Huh. So I and they did say were Final Fantasy 14 originals.
01:21:08
Speaker
So it makes sense that those would would be the two. They were originally in Final Fantasy 1.0, Final Fantasy 14 1.0. So I would like it if that's what it was, if those were the two jobs. And it would be just like how for ah Dawn Trail, how the shirt referenced, in a way, both the jobs, Viper and Pictomancer.
01:21:34
Speaker
Yeah, fucking, yeah, I'm wearing a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle shirt, and it references Pictomancer. How? The artist's names. Fucking.
01:21:44
Speaker
And it was specifically a Leo shirt, and what did Leo wield? Two swords. Yep, and some iterations of him, those two swords could become one weapon.
01:21:56
Speaker
Yeah, yeah. So his shirt then referenced both jobs. So now what if his shirt is referencing both jobs again?

Final Fantasy XIV Speculations

01:22:05
Speaker
Yeah. And it's just like next European fan fest. He's just wearing a Pirates of the Caribbean shirt because obviously we're getting the first reveal, the job reveal in the EU. And it's most likely going to be the Sentinel reveal.
01:22:18
Speaker
I can't wait for the next one, but I'm going to be more than likely working. My thing with that is, okay, so Buccaneer, obviously there's a Buccaneer Guild in Limsa, so that's where we go for that.
01:22:31
Speaker
How do we learn Sentinel? Like, what's going to be the plot line of that? Thantalan? My guess is Thantalan. We go to a Titan's grave.
01:22:44
Speaker
We go to where he fell. go Yeah, we go back to Eastern Thanaland. Yeah, we go back to just... It's Western Thanaland. I'm thinking of Camp Drybone. I was thinking Camp Drybone. We go back to Western Than. We go to where we fought Rititan, Cape Westwind.
01:23:00
Speaker
And ah all of a sudden, his ghost is the one who trains us. That would be kind of funny considering we beat him twice, once in the flesh and once in the spirit.
01:23:12
Speaker
Yeah. That would be hilarious. That would be. I'm all for that. That's my theory. Yeah, I wouldn't complain. I wouldn't complain.
01:23:24
Speaker
um Quick. Okay, so the new ultimate comes out very soon. You mad? You mad. i love that that's like the second people are like, yo, what should we call this?
01:23:37
Speaker
And immediately people went, you mad ah is great. um Are you going doing, ah are you going to attempt the, are you going to try to be one of the world's first dragons? No, oh i am not going to attempt to be the world's first. I may hop in it a couple times with ah one of my 14 friends. I actually happen to have one a friend who is one of the best summoners in the entire world.
01:24:05
Speaker
Wow. that's That's pretty cool. Yes, he is easily one of the best players I know, and he plans to go into UMAD. The only thing that's keeping him that holds him back in this game, by the way, is his ping, because he plays on NA servers while living in France.
01:24:23
Speaker
Oh. Well, that'll do that to you. Despite that, he still regularly parses 99. in North American servers?
01:24:35
Speaker
Yes. That's kind of crazy. Mm-hmm. Okay. So I i plan to jump a couple times in it with him because he plans to clear it within the first... ah He wants to try to clear it within the first month. He wants that to be his first ultimate clear.
01:24:52
Speaker
Well, I wish some luck. I would like it more also if I cared at all about Kefka, but I never played his games. I don't know anything about him, so it's just he's just a raid boss to me.
01:25:07
Speaker
six is i mean Six is arguably one of the best ah Final Fantasies ever. Yeah, I've heard that. I just personally haven't played it. It's high on my list of games to play, though.
01:25:19
Speaker
that's That's good at least. I mean, once I'm only two game, I'm only like a dungeon and a game away from playing through six for the first time. Again, i hate the fucking after years of my fucking passion.
01:25:30
Speaker
God, I hate that. God, I hate the after The after years did not need to exist. It's so like the story's all right, but everything else about the game, that's just not good.
01:25:44
Speaker
does Everything else about that game is not good, man. It's not good. ah ah Okay, one of the last things I'll ask about. Beastmaster is on the horizon. We are getting it at the 7.55.
01:25:56
Speaker
ah seven point five five um 7.5 5 6 7.5 6 I think it is it's like the one of the last things that we're getting before ever cold um what are your thoughts on what we've seen theories on what we'll be doing with it without with the uh whatever it's called its own with it it's that roguelike yeah that what are your thoughts I'm gonna play the fuck out of it ha I'm just excited. I hate that it's going to be level 50 locked, but I can't wait to watch to walk through Limsa and see 500 behemoths.
01:26:36
Speaker
My God. Yeah, you're right. I can't wait for that. Oh my God. Limsa the Mensa is going crash. we We are going to bring about another calamity.
01:26:48
Speaker
Yeah, the fucking PC calamity of fucking 2026.
01:26:53
Speaker
No computer is safe. I just hope there's a pet size function with it, like how there is with Summoner, to where we can turn down the size of the Summoner, because as it it's pretty infamous ah Titan's butt crack when you're playing with level 100 Summoner.
01:27:10
Speaker
Realistic size behemoth, no size adjustments allowed. but I can't wait to do the Binding Coils of Bahamut synced with Beastmaster. God.
01:27:22
Speaker
I have to do that with Blue Mage. I need to do all that blue content to get the Morble. Yeah, I need to do that too, but the main reason I haven't is just fuck Blue Mage.
01:27:34
Speaker
Blue Mage is fun. What do you mean? i like Blue Mage. I don't have fun doing it. What do you mean? I can't play... Tank, Blue Mage is hard.
01:27:49
Speaker
You just eat the damage. It's fine, love. but I'm a tank main. and Blue Mage is a tank healer and DPS. Yeah, but when you're doing that content, you need to have... just gotta the Aetherical Mimicry to the right thing.
01:28:03
Speaker
Yeah, it's just there's specific tank builds, and I don't find them fun. Fair. and i I don't find doing like high-end content as a DPS nearly as fun as doing it as a tank.
01:28:20
Speaker
Interesting. This is the reason I made DPS. is that's i mean I like it because also I just turn off my brain a lot of the time in that game. DPS is very much know your rotation, turn your brain off.
01:28:33
Speaker
Well, that's what tanking is. Only it just also involves doing the tango. Yeah. And i I like that. and i find it fun.

With that, then, it's time for us to go into our second topic of the day, where Dragon will now ramble on about dragons for the next half hour. but i could do it for I could do that all day. because okay so I guess the first question, Dragon, is why are you a Dragon VTuber?
01:30:05
Speaker
So it's really hard to answer that because... Originally, I wasn't actually going to be a dragon VTuber. I was originally playing with the idea of being a Toby Kodachi VTuber and using my Toby Kodachi OC for streaming.
01:30:23
Speaker
Toby Kodachi. What is that? It's my favorite monster from Monster Hunter. It's a little flying ah snake-like flying squirrel.
01:30:35
Speaker
Hold on, I'm gonna Google what this looks like. What? I've never were played Monster Hunter, so that's why I, uh... It's a little flying squirrel snake. Oh, oh, oh, oh.
01:30:47
Speaker
I actually have two Toby Kadachi figures with me. They're known it they're a fanged is, you know, a dragon. Gotcha. Gotcha.
01:30:59
Speaker
So that was originally what I was going to be, but someone suggested just so since your name is Dragon, why don't you just use one of your Dragon OCs? And originally I didn't use an OC, I used...
01:31:12
Speaker
something else, a different dragon that I'd rather not go into detail about because it's kind of personal. And then eventually I just used my original OC that I made when I was in middle school but never did anything with into my ah VTuber.
01:31:32
Speaker
Gotcha. Okay. And so that's how it happened. That's how I came to have my VTuber be Ashton the dragon. Okay.
01:31:43
Speaker
So what was the, I guess, who was the first dragon that made you like dragons? Do you want to know something funny? i' it This is the earliest memory i have.
01:31:57
Speaker
I remember when I was like, a year and a half old, I was visiting my uncle and i he happened to have a picture on the wall and I just pointed at it and went, that's me.
01:32:09
Speaker
It was a picture of a dragon.
01:32:16
Speaker
yeah knew what dragons were. I knew what a dragon was before I knew my own name. You know what that means, dragon? That means in another life you were a dragon. I'm autistic as fuck, bro. And yes, that or is just the autism talking through. It's a little of both. Let's be real. just It was actually just the autism folks.
01:32:40
Speaker
like I like to think my first word was dragon when my mother claims it was no.

Dragon Representation in Games

01:32:49
Speaker
You know what? That makes a lot of sense. Yeah, that's for kids. Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. Imagine, though, if it was dragon.
01:32:55
Speaker
I have more memories of dragons than I do of any other thing. One of my first toys was a dragon. ah i carried stuffed dragons all around place. I had just as many stuffed dragons as I did dinosaurs.
01:33:11
Speaker
Dinosaurs. ah like i'm ah ah well you You had your hyper fixation early then. i I had a lot of hyper fixations early.
01:33:22
Speaker
i don't know if that's a good or bad thing. I know what I like. Yeah, I mean, that that's good. that That's good. mean, it probably helped your parents with picking birthday gifts.
01:33:35
Speaker
You want to know something sad? What? a lot of my birthday gifts were just old gifts rewrapped. Oh, that actually is kind of sad. i was i was at least told being like sick. It's like at least like a dragon a year.
01:33:50
Speaker
would have been funny. I would get the same dragon every year. They were counting on my memory being that bad.
01:33:57
Speaker
Jokes on them. I played with those toys all the damn time. Jokes on them. I was autistic. I guilted them years later.
01:34:07
Speaker
would be guilty to them if I still talk to them. Oh, okay. Okay. oh yeah okay Okay. Well, ah that's where I'm going remove my foot from my mouth. Okay.
01:34:23
Speaker
All right. ah Moving on. Moving on then.
01:34:28
Speaker
Who are some of your favorite dragons in video games? um So i I will be real. I haven't played a lot of games with dragons because I find dragons tend to be used kind of poorly in games because they're generally bad guys and I would rather them not be.
01:34:47
Speaker
But I'd say probably Spyro and honestly Red from Spyro. Those are two of my favorite ah dragon characters. And aside from them, probably as typical as it is Parthenax.
01:35:08
Speaker
yeah everyone Everyone likes Parthenax, voiced by Mr. Winnie the Pooh himself. he That's always a funny thing. is like oh yeah It's Jim Cummings, the voice of Winnie the Pooh and Parthenax.
01:35:22
Speaker
The duality of man. You're either a cuddly teddy bear with shirt. Wait, thought he was voiced by Mario. No, that, no. um Yeah, he was voiced by Charles.
01:35:34
Speaker
that That's who voiced him. Not Winnie the Pooh. Mario.
01:35:40
Speaker
Oh. Mm-hmm. Oh, the duality of Marios. Yeah, he was voiced by Charles Martin May. Just one fact. jim Jim Cummings.
01:35:52
Speaker
Why did you? Why did I think it was Jim Cummings? He was a really good voice actor, though. Yeah, he has some voices Styrim. Huh. Okay, that's just me having a bad memory. My bad.
01:36:05
Speaker
Wow. It really shows. It really shows. i play Skyrim. I know my stuff. Please don't. God. You got a fact wrong. Point and laugh at.
01:36:17
Speaker
Point and laugh at him. He got something wrong. I don't know why. It's because Jim Cummings has been recently doing like a lot more like deeper, like more villain, couple of villain roles here and there, I think. And that's why I got it mixed up.
01:36:31
Speaker
He does a good job at Millions, honestly. He does. He does. Yeah, wow. Okay. maybe is ah anyways track Anyways, dragons.
01:36:43
Speaker
ah You said that ah you don't like how they're represented because they're mostly represented evil. Can you tell Vorian on that? I just feel like dragons would do better for if they were like wizened.
01:37:00
Speaker
ah Because dragons general are generally stereotyped as living a long time. Yeah. When you live a long time, you learn what battles to pick. So they wouldn't go picking frivolous battles that they are likely to lose. So put them as super bosses. Put them as ah hidden bosses that you have to go out of your way to find. Or have them be sage elders who you can pick a fight with and lose. Okay.
01:37:30
Speaker
Okay. Now, when they're used correctly as villains, they're great. Yeah, I mean, because in a sense, like... It's easy... They're, unfortunately, an easy villain. I mean, yes, but it's also, like, when you say... with How you worded that of, like, yeah, they're wise. They've been around a long time.
01:37:47
Speaker
When it comes to, like, Alduin and Skyrim specifically, if you really look at that, Alduin was sent to our time from the past. Therefore, ah hence why he's, like, going about how he was...
01:38:01
Speaker
Well, that's also the whole thing with Alduin is that he was literally the harbinger of the end times and he was from a time where dragons ruled. Exactly. Yeah. So he was still in that mindset of dragons ruled, even though time had changed completely to where they didn't. Yeah.
01:38:18
Speaker
But that just makes his villainy more on par with how a dragon villain should be handled. Yes. In your books with what you're saying. Yes. What about some examples where the the dragon villain doesn't fall into that?
01:38:34
Speaker
oh Are there any examples that we can think of off the top of heads? Like I said, unfortunately, i haven't played a lot of games where the dragons are like the villains because I generally just avoid those. I mostly play games where like dragons aren't bad guys. Like one of my favorite games involving a dragon is Little Dragon's Cafe where you are raising a dragon from infancy.
01:38:56
Speaker
Okay. i like I like stuff like that more with the dragons rather than, you know, just going, oh, there's a dragon. Let's kill it. Gotcha. Unless it's Monster Hunter.
01:39:07
Speaker
Monster Hunter's different but yeah just because it's, oh, this dragon is this really powerful force that literally destroyed an entire kingdom in an entire night looking at you Fatalis. And it is a challenge to get up to there to where you beat it.
01:39:24
Speaker
Gotcha. Okay. Okay. Plus an argument can be made that most of the quote-unquote dragons in Monster Hunter aren't quote-unquote dragons. Aren't quote-unquote dragons. Because Elder Dragon in Monster Hunter is a terminology for something that doesn't fall within the ah typical naming scene because you you have like the categorization because you you have fanged beast, flying wyvern, you have fanged wyvern.
01:39:54
Speaker
ah stuff like that elder dragons are things that fall outside of that like you have Kieran an elder dragon which is a horse huh what do you mean the the drag elder dragon is a horse look up Kieran monster hunter it's a horse oh right you right hold on know exactly what's going to appear because ah it's just like Kieran in Final of Fantasy XIV
01:40:22
Speaker
yeah It's a horse with the lion's face. Yeah. Just like the mount in through the ARR. Yeah, so that is a dragon in Monster Hunter.
01:40:35
Speaker
It's an elder dragon because it doesn't fall within any other categorization. Oh. Now there are true dragons in Monster Hunter because you have like Namiel, which is a C-sharpened dragon.
01:40:49
Speaker
Well, not necessarily a C-sharpened, it's like a What was that? jell it was It's a type of jellyfish imagined as a dragon. A jelly? what i mean it from the color ah I get it from the coloring looking at this. I can't remember the jellyfish name, but it's a dragon that has, it's a deep sea dragon.
01:41:12
Speaker
But then you also have things like Taestra. The blooded belly a manticical jellyfish? I can't remember. Hold on. Hold on. I'm looking it up.
01:41:25
Speaker
For what specific jellyfish? Has aspects of manta rays, deep sea fish, and jellyfish. I think it was a vampire jellyfish? Vampire jellyfish? I'm learning about a lot of other things.
01:41:41
Speaker
Hold on. Vampire squid and cone jellies. Okay. I just combined the two. There.
01:41:51
Speaker
It also happens to be my favorite elder dragon. but Okay. Okay. so buster So basically Monster Hunter, there's a lot of dragons, but they don't look like dragons.
01:42:07
Speaker
Yes. The only typical quote unquote fantasy dragon in Monster Hunter is Fatalis. Is Rathalos a dragon then? It's it's a wyvern.
01:42:19
Speaker
Okay, he's a wyvern. When I say true dragon, I mean the four legs, two wings, fire-breathing dragon.
01:42:28
Speaker
And they're not a wyvern. Even though wyvern is a dragon. Even though wyvern is a dragon, technically. Not all dragons are wyvern, but all wyverns are dragons. Gotcha. There is the true European view of a dragon, but that's not all what dragons are, because dragons can also be. What does Arkfeld fall under then?
01:42:47
Speaker
Arkfield is a flying wyvern, I'm pretty sure. Another wyvern, god damn. Yes, it's a wyvern. The only creatures in Monster Hunter that have the classification of dragon are elder dragons. And not all of them, and most of them don't even look like actual dragons.
01:43:03
Speaker
Gotcha. Gotcha. So very, good wow. um as i've warm As a normie, plebeian scrub with this, that is very and unfortunately confusing.
01:43:17
Speaker
Yeah, it was confusing to me when I first started of playing Monster Hunter. I bet. i bet um What are some of the worst uses of dragons that you've seen in video games or just other media? Because as somebody who's a fan of dragons, I'm sure that you... i'm sure are Are you very like nitpicky when it comes to like when you see dragons in media?
01:43:36
Speaker
Unfortunately, not really. Because if it has a dragon, generally, I will at least look at it. So just out of the blue, did you watch any of Game of Thrones at all then? No, I wasn't allowed to watch it, and by the time I was, had to think that's where I wasn't restricting on it. It just didn't interest me because I had delved into Final Fantasy XIV.
01:43:59
Speaker
Ah, gotcha. yeah I didn't have time to watch Game of Thrones. I was playing Final Fantasy XIV. Fair. fair. that that's fair Plus, an honest, while i do nitpick dragons and wish they were used less as villains and more often as wise sages that you consult, i I won't complain if your game has a dragon.
01:44:28
Speaker
Even if it is a villain, I still will play. I still will just be like, hey, dragon. Cool. I do, though, wish that we would explore other types of dragons more rather than just using the European dragon. Like, give us the Chinese dragons, like the Chinese lung. Give us ah the Korean dragons. Have you ever seen anything to do with Korean dragons? Yeah.
01:44:52
Speaker
outside of like Korean games not really a lot of people don't even realize just how diverse dragons are I would love to see other type of dragons more often besides just me fight Shenron it Dragon Ball don't be a pussy Dragon Ball let us fight Shenron me and let me some of the Dragon Balls in 1v1 me bitch if If we could have that, just other types of dragons more often, I would appreciate that, honestly. Because, like, they're so cool. that would be cool. You know what I think would be cool? Going back to Final Fantasy a little bit, if, like, one of the reflections is bit kind of based on Chinese mythology then, and we see those Chinese dragons.
01:45:37
Speaker
They would be completely different from the dragons in the source, because if you remember in Final Fantasy XIV, dragons are aliens, and they arrived after the Sundering, so there was no dragons in the reflections.
01:45:51
Speaker
they could retcon that they could totally retcon that come on it would just have to be a scale kin that just happened to evolve to resemble a dragon yeah there exactly that's what happens there boom the calamity in the whatever the next reflection is causes caused all those skill kids to become dragons there that's oh so i heard that bag you were just like
01:46:21
Speaker
I thought I was cooking. I'm like, oh, this would be a great thing to make. And it's just like, well. yeah Unfortunately, the dragons are aliens. i write i'm right yeah I guess you're right, because we learned that in fucking Endwalker. You're right. i completely We learned that in Heavensward.
01:46:39
Speaker
Oh, yeah. We do. But it's like, i don't remember I didn't remember that shit from Heavensward until fucking Endwalker came on. yeah
01:46:51
Speaker
That's when it's like it kind of mattered again. Yeah. Anyways, um aside from the fantasy settings, what other settings would you like to see dragons in? Modern.
01:47:04
Speaker
Give us modern dragons. Have dragons that work that live in libraries and loan out their books. Give us dragons that are just inconveniences because they just happen to take a nap on a highway and people are just like, I got to get to work, but the dragon's in the way. And they call their bosses and like, hey, I can't come in. There's a dragon sleeping on my car. There's a dragon on the I-5. I can't come in today. It's not going to wake up for another 20 years.
01:47:33
Speaker
Yes. I'm going have to get a new job on the other side of the city. Give us modern dragons more often, please. That would be cool.
01:47:44
Speaker
Also give us sci-fi dragons, please. now when it just Now, sci-fi dragons, like... When you say sci-fi dragon, would you like... Dragons in space. Dragons are dragons from other worlds. Dragons in space happen in Final Fantasy XIV.
01:48:06
Speaker
By your own words, that's already happened. true, but I want it more often. Give us scientist dragons that propel our understanding of space exploration. Give us... ah sci far just sci-fi that has dragons in it and you're talking like flesh dragons just in like the sci-fi setting not like dragons like robotic like built like a robot give us that too give us cyberpunk dragons cyberpunk 99 but V is a dragon yes think there's a mod for that i'm sure there is ah there's a furry mod for it if there's a furry mod for it there's a dragon mod for it yeah true
01:48:51
Speaker
also give us historical dragons.
01:48:56
Speaker
historical is Historical fiction with dragons.

Dragons in Historical and Futuristic Settings

01:49:00
Speaker
Not too historical though. I don't want to see Hitler riding a dragon. A dragon wouldn't accept him. I don't know. you There might be one fucked up dragon with a similar mustache that would.
01:49:12
Speaker
no ah No! No! No! no! No,
01:49:28
Speaker
no just no i like i'm done like obviously it would have to be like eighteen hundreds and before yeah what i talk about historical dragons, I mean like far in the past like Ancient humans working alongside ancient dragons. That's how they built the pyramids. It wasn't aliens. It was fucking dragons. Yeah. ah ah Give us like the Vikings with dragons. Like I know we had that with how to train your dragon, but have it yeah be less fantasy and more based off of real events, just with dragons there.
01:50:03
Speaker
Like the discovery of the Americas by with the Vikings and there were dragons. Yeah. let's give us that. Just give us that. You know what?
01:50:15
Speaker
That would be kind of funny. I feel like dragon, you would be the one to like lead the media industry into using dragons more.
01:50:26
Speaker
Please. You heard her Hollywood big wig. You heard them. Hollywood big wigs. ah Let dragon teach you dragons.
01:50:37
Speaker
Honestly, if Hollywood wants to make a make a series similar to the fantastical beast, but it's just the Dragonology book, because there is a book called Dragonology, a book series called Dragonology, and just have that be the basis of the series. That would be up your alley.
01:50:59
Speaker
Yeah, had five copies of that book as a kid. You had a had of five copies of that? Was it just like a lot of wear and tear on them that caused that or just like five perfectly good copies?
01:51:10
Speaker
So two copies were perfectly good that i had put away. And unfortunately, me being ah dumb, I lost them and we didn't discover them until like five years later. By the time we had discovered them, we had already bought me a new copy.
01:51:24
Speaker
Gotcha. Okay. That, that makes more sense. That makes a lot more sense of like, it's just like, no, you read them so much that the wear and tear ripped out all the pages and we had to just get a new copy every time.
01:51:36
Speaker
i did have books like that, that involved dragons. Why am I not surprised? why it like thats i Another thing you like that you mentioned said in ah when talking about topics to talk about are dinosaur.
01:51:54
Speaker
Dinosaur! um So when it comes to this, what's your opinion on then dinosaurs used in gaming? Please make them not be obstacles more often. Let them be companions, please. Did you play Paleo Park?
01:52:15
Speaker
I have personally not. It's on my radar. It's just I've been busy with a lot of other things. That's fair. Because I'm like, that's well that's when we're not they're not the obstacles. They're your helpers. with Yeah. Yeah.
01:52:28
Speaker
like I do have it, it's just I haven't been able to. like i also have Paleo Pines, I want to play that so badly. i've got Did ARC interest you at all?
01:52:42
Speaker
Do you want to know how many hours I have ah an ARC survival? Oh, Is it more less than Final Fantasy for It is less, I will admit.
01:52:54
Speaker
I have 1,194.2 hours into ARK. I have been playing since the alpha. Oh, my God. Wow. Okay.
01:53:07
Speaker
The main reason the time is so low is because... Like the game when it first came out was so unoptimized that it was incredibly huge. Like currently Ark Survival Evolved 404.7 gigabytes. When it first came out, it was 100 gigabytes when there was like 10 dinosaurs and one map.
01:53:32
Speaker
10 dinosaurs, 100 gigabytes. that's a donald that's ah That is It was poorly optimized. That 404 for gigs was after they compressed the files like several dozen times because at one point it was, i kid you not, 800 gigs. 100 gigs?
01:53:54
Speaker
No, sorry. yes is it like gigs what no sorry is it like a thousand gigs a terabyte? yeah That game was close to being a terabyte big. What the fuck?
01:54:08
Speaker
they have They've compressed it like a lot. like Arc Survival Ascended is a lot better in terms of compression, which is their remake of Arc Survival Evolved. And I currently only have 9.4 hours into it because I only just now got a computer that was strong enough to play it. can actually support it, yeah.
01:54:27
Speaker
Yes. So the main reason why my Arc Survival Evolved time is so low is because of the unoptimization in

Game Optimization Issues and Experiences

01:54:35
Speaker
the game. Like I had to...
01:54:38
Speaker
I was having to get more and more storage. The game was just too intense on my system to where I couldn't have more than 10 dinosaurs in my base at a time. Otherwise, my game would crash. Wow.
01:54:54
Speaker
ah That is the only reason that my playtime for it is so low. And I say so low in quotations when I have over a thousand hours in the game. that's That's still very funny. What what is your favorite dinosaur?
01:55:09
Speaker
The Spinosaurus. nice. That is my all-time favorite. It is also my favorite carnivore. My favorite herbivore is the Triceratops.
01:55:19
Speaker
Nice. credit Sarah from Jurassic, not Jurassic, but from The Land Before Time for why the Triceratops is my favorite herbivore. Cool. Nice. I loved Sarah.
01:55:32
Speaker
I still haven't seen The Before Time. It's traumatizing. Watch it. ah I love it when people say it's the most traumatizing movie I have ever seen. Go watch it. It's a great time. Oh, yeah, it is.
01:55:48
Speaker
i'm good I'm good. I know the gist of what happens and why it's traumatizing. ah But I'm good. I don't watch a lot of movies to begin with, so ill I'm good.
01:56:00
Speaker
When it comes to dragons and dinosaurs, which is like, how close is the like the race between those two for like your all-time favorite? o The hardest question we could ask somebody.
01:56:14
Speaker
The hardest question we could have asked dragon. The hardest question you could ask an autistic person. Yeah, I was about to say. With dragon's autism, ah which This is like the hardest question we could have asked. It's like asking a Star Trek fan, do you like Jean-Luc? you like Picard? Or do you like Kirk?
01:56:33
Speaker
Well, an argument can be made either way for him. You can't argue against dragons and dinosaurs. You can't just put two bad bitches next to each other and tell you to pick the best.
01:56:43
Speaker
I mean... i mean That's like asking, do you is i like putting a a ah Granny Smith and a ah Golden Delicious and be like, which is the better apple?
01:56:57
Speaker
grace Because it's completely upon circumstances because like granny smith is the better apple for baking golden delicious is better for just straight eating now granny smith is better for straight eating i'll tell you that much right now i can't eat any other apple except for grace you know fair there's a lot of people that because of london dollar is because i need my autism because and all other apples are too fucking soft and i don't like that fair enough Which is also the reason why Granny Smith is best for baking. Yeah, because of how... It's literally just a How they're used for better. Because, like... i don't i don't know how I can explain it. I'm not the best at explaining, but I feel like whenever dinosaurs are used, they're used very fucking well. And I feel like a lot of the time, dragons, when they're used, they're used very fucking well. It's just...
01:57:58
Speaker
I'm going to just straight up out myself. I'm a fucking furry. I find dragons hot as fuck.
01:58:07
Speaker
Well, yeah, right here, furry. Doesn't that make you like, isn't the technical term scaly? Scaly, yes. i i One, I hate that I know that term ah because I learned it in fucking college, and I hate that I learned it.
01:58:25
Speaker
Like,
01:58:28
Speaker
But regardless, so hey, more power to you, dragon. so it It's just literally a case of how they're used.
01:58:40
Speaker
And that, you know what? Fair. ah Is there anything else you want to add about dinosaurs, dragons, ah before we head on into the bonus level? crazy lists, great deals, and recapping gaming history, it's all here in the bonus level. When I was a kid and I was watching Jurassic Park and ah theaters, I scared everyone around me because I laughed when the T-Rex bit the dude on the toilet.
01:59:06
Speaker
I mean, to be fair, that scene was a bit comical. Like, if you look at that scene now, it is kind of comical. Well, yeah, you look at it now, but everyone expected the little kid. the little kid be scared of that. True. They expected the little kid to be scared. And I just started cheering, laughing. And was cheering for the dinosaurs the entire time. It was like, ha, dinosaur, ha, ha, ha. Everyone around.
01:59:31
Speaker
i think a kid's autistic. Yeah. Everyone's like, I think the kid's demented. a little bit.
01:59:40
Speaker
And that, my friends, is how you get tested for autism. All right. hey let ah And to kick off the bonus level dragon, I feel like we have one last thing with dragons to to give you.
01:59:53
Speaker
And that is our dragon themed game clash. Eight dragons are here to win the spot of best video game dragon. Are you ready to cast your votes to decide the winner?
02:00:08
Speaker
Yeah. All right. Match one. Alduin versus Bahamut.

Dragon Battle and Game Recommendations

02:00:13
Speaker
As much as I love Bahamut, Alduin, because Alduin is literally the bringer of the end times.
02:00:19
Speaker
He literally it was born to bring about the destruction. He is powerful. All right. Match two, Imperial German Dragon Mode versus Blue Eyes White Dragon.
02:00:32
Speaker
Imperial's Ramon. Nice. Match three, Dragonoid from Bakugan versus Dragonite from Pokemon. So I'm going to be honest. I didn't watch Bakugan, so I don't know anything about anyone from there. So I'm going to say Dragonite.
02:00:48
Speaker
Fair. Match four, Argarok. This is the dragon from Twilight Princess ah versus Spyro. Spyro claps Agarok full on.
02:01:01
Speaker
just he He destroys him. All right. Semi-final matches. Alduin versus Imperial Dramon. Alduin. and Like I said, he brings early in times.
02:01:13
Speaker
And Dragonite versus Spyro. Spyro. All right. Grand finals. Alduin versus Spyro. Who wins? Spyro. Let's go! The hero dragon saves it again. he he would just find a way to just stalk.
02:01:29
Speaker
He would. It's like Alderman comes to Spyro's realm. Spyro goes around collecting gems. He's just like, what the fuck is this little purple dragon? Gets headbutted in the stomach and just dies.
02:01:41
Speaker
Also, remember in Spyro's lore, purple dragons are special. I've never, okay, I've technically only played like not even an hour of Spyro, but it was the fourth Spyro game, the one on the, a Hero's Tale.
02:01:56
Speaker
Hero's Tale is a good game, though I've never actually beaten it because my copy of the game corrupted and whenever I would try to play it, it would lose all limited save data. Ooh, that sucks.
02:02:08
Speaker
Yeah, I've never probably played a Spyro game, though. I should. they're good. They're good. ah Moving on to this week in gaming history from May 25th to June 7th. Here's what happened in the past. Starting with some major events. May 26th, 1984 in Houston, Texas, 14 top scorers from 14 regions in the U.S. compete in the grand national finals of Konami's track and field arcade game. The top three will play in Japan in June against Japan's top three players.

June 1st, 1998, the Game Boy camera and printer are released in the U.S. for $49.95 and $59.95, respectively. I remember the Game Boy camera. i didn't grow up with the Game Boy, um so I never really got to use it. But it's like i looked at it i look at the technology back when I like could understand all that shit. I'm like, wow, it was able to do that? That's nuts.
02:03:02
Speaker
Yeah, it was nuts. June 6, 2006, the Entertainment Software Association files a lawsuit against the state of Minnesota in Minnesota Federal District Court to overturn a new bill that would fine children and teens for buying or renting mature or adult-only games.
